Whittier’s Mayberry Park is the new home of a brand-new skate park that opened to the public on Saturday, February 8.
The 18,000-square-foot park, designed by the skaters who will use it, provides a safe and tailor-made alternative to skating in parking lots and at schools and other public buildings. It is the largest skate park overseen by the L.A. County Parks & Rec Department.
At the grand opening on Tuesday, February 4, over 400 skateboarders from all over Southern California came to try out the park’s rails, quarter pipes, ledges, and volcano.
The skate park project was implemented by L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn, who rides a skateboard in this introductory video that also features interviews with skateboarders.
In addition to the new skate park, Amelia Mayberry Park also offers a playground, baseball diamond, basketball courts, gymnasium, community center, and splash pad.
Located at 13201 Meyer Rd, Whittier, CA 90605, the park is open 8am-6pm Monday-Saturday and is closed on Sunday.
